Student Testimonials
"I was part of the first group of students to be based at the new Ginkgo building, literally as soon as it had walls and a roof we were in and learning about brilliant arty things.
Holding the course in it's own building away from the main college means you get a chance to really concentrate on your work because you're always surrounded by like minded people, also, unlike some nearby courses where foundation students have to squeeze into whatever studio space the degree students leave them, you get the whole space to yourselves! Not many other courses get the amount of space or the facilities you get at Tregye.
I'm currently doing my second year of Digital Animation at Falmouth University, thanks to the excellent lecturers at tregye I had a really solid portfolio of life drawing, observational sketches, photography and photoshop work, which goes a long way when it comes to getting a place on a technical course like I'm doing now, I also came away from it with a greater understanding of art history and the contemporary art world.
Probably the best foundation course in the South-West."
Nigel Kitts

"Tregye was a great place to do the foundation, the atmosphere was great! You get so much one to one attention and feed back, since coming to university I have realized how lucky we were in this area! the facilities are fantastic, not only our own print room but a whole building all for the foundation students. It was the perfect way to get ready for Uni and I had a brilliant time doing it!"

"The foundation course at Tregye helped me enormously in preparing me for Univeristy. I wasnt even sure what exactly it was that I wanted to do but I was able to try so many diiferent disciplines including photography, textiles, graphics, fine art, 3D and Print-making. Print-making and textiles were two of my favourite disciplines at tregye and I am now studying Fashion Textiles at Middlesex University in London. The fact that Tregye is situated away from the main Truro College campus makes it the perfect place to study the art and design foundation. The amount of time available with the lecturers helps you build on your own skills and confidence whilst still having the freedom to explore your creativity."

"I met so many interesting people and learnt so much about myself and the wider social context of Art and Design.
The course gave me direction and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I am currently studying at Leeds College of Art and wouldn't have got through the interview process if i hadn't had the support from the tutors at Tregye: They were involved in the building of my portfolio from day one.
Amazing facilities and tutor support - I realise this more and more now I am at University and wish i hadn't taken them for granted. Not many places can say they've got work spaces for every student, or even enough screens to go around! I was extremely lucky to have had such a head start. And am so very thankful to everyone at Truro College and Tregye."

"The Truro College Foundation course really helps students to familiarise themselves with all subjects under the art and design umbrella and is a very beneficial experience. The lecturers are great at offering one to one tutoring and are always very accommodating to their students. It really does prepare you for the future, so much so, that I felt my first year at university was more of a recap. I highly recommend this course, it helped me get into University College Falmouth, where I studied for a degree in Graphic Design."
Tamsyn

"Studying foundation art and design at Truro college has been fundamental for me to mature as an art student by broadening my contextual knowledge of the subject and helping me to learn new skills that I didn't necessarily have at A-Level. I found the course to be very practical with a great sense of freedom, allowing me to express personality into my work, I felt encouraged to work this way and had a great amount of help to hand from the various lecturers and the brilliant facilities at the college. With these accomplishments I felt confident, both in knowledge and ability, that I was ready for university and excited for a career within the art industry as an illustrator."

"The time spent on the Foundation at Tregye has got to be one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences during my education so far. The course itself offers a range of disiplines spanning the Art and Design world, giving students the oppertunity to experiment; finding the right path for them to follow in to higher education. The available pathways included Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and Graphics. These were then supported by up to date facilities such as a computer suit, dark room, 3D workshop and print room which allowed students to get to grips with a wide variety of mediums. Alongside great facilities, Tregye boasts a dedicated team of staff specialising in certain subject areas, making sure each aspect of the course was covered. The best thing about the course was how well lectures such as Contexual Studies furthered our knowledge in the world of Art and Design, helping us to attain a level of understanding that is expected when applying to Universities. Tregye is situated in a very scenic corner of Carnon Downs, allowing the students to enjoy the pleasant views, whilst giving them the space to relax and think about tasks at hand. I found the location to be a very inspiring place to carry out my foundation, aided by the numerous facilities and welcoming staff. The course was crucial in preparing me for higher education, giving me a suitable portfolio and allowing me to gain entry to my degree course in Graphic Design at UWE, Bristol. The knowledge gained on the foundation has proved invaluable whilst carrying out the first year of my degree and I certainly advise the course to anybody considering a career in Art and Design."

"The time I spent on the foundation course at Tregye was without a doubt the best year of my life. I met some of my closest friends and learnt so much in one year. Without this course, the amazing lecturers and technicians I wouldn’t be where I am today. It gave me the skills and confidence I needed to move to London and to continue in education. I am currently a year two student studying BA Graphic and Media
Design: Information Design at London College of Communication. Without the help from everyone at Tregye there is no way I would of even considered applying to LCC, let alone getting a place.
The foundation course has amazing lecturers; you get lots of contact time and everyone goes above and beyond to help you in finding a place at university.
Tregye has great printing facilities along with the best print technician! As well as amazing photography facilities: a darkroom, a studio, and a great workshop. Its location makes it even better – its quiet, surrounded by fields and wildlife and is a fantastic place to be creative. It is a great building also, filled with natural light and lots of space to fill.
I can’t recommend the foundation course at Tregye enough. I wish I could go back and do it again!"

"The Foundation Course at Tregeye was great fun, I learned a variety of new skills, built on old ones and it really helped me choose my future path of a graphic designer. The great facilities and smashing range of skilled lecturers helped me develop new methods of working, and all the lecturers are really supportive and full of great advice. There is a lot of one on one time with lecturers which you don't see on other courses, and its really easy to develop relationships with the tutors, and you're treated as an individual, and given all the freedom you want. The course is packed with great stuff, and I got so much out of it in just a year!"
 Alex Pugh

"When starting the year course, we got straight into work and had a trip to the Eden Project, with set tasks for the day. This allowed us to meet others on the course without the awkwardness of being in a classroom looking too nervous to speak. Also this was a chance to explore new methods of recording our environment; this was a skill that proved useful in my first project at University.
The course itself is set up with the ideal that every student is able to try some of the main different aspects of design, allowing you to make an educated decision in what particular topic to pursue at a later date. By doing this part of the course, I found this first term open my eyes to what was available and possible.
The facilities at Tregye are brilliant, I personally used the print room a lot and had the technicians and apparatus not been of such a high quality I would have passed by this process, in fact the Mono print facility available is superior to what is at University. Tregye put so much effort into giving each student a constructive experience into new processes. Also I would like to mention how beautiful the environment is down at the Tregye site, and sometimes if you are lucky the sheep will escape from the field and visit you in college.
As we got into our second term and had chosen our specific subject, we were given more freedom on what each project would be about. However with this freedom, we still had a structure to the course which allowed our final responses to be informed and on target.
The tutors for each subject are really useful as each have a vast knowledge of their subjects and when you talk with more than one at a time they bounce ideas off each other, which when you are stuck for an idea, is incredibly helpful and inspiring. In my opinion each member of staff is crucial to the smooth running of the course. As I said before they are helpful with your work but are also very easy to talk to when there are other problems outside of college. I have experienced their support when a close family member became ill and passed away, without them I am sure I would have struggled to progress as far as I have.
The process of applying to University is made so easy through their organised approach, from signing each student up to UCAS to building a solid portfolio of work to take to interview.
By the end of the course I had made a really good friendship group, a couple of whom I am living with at University. Without taking this course I would not have, got into University, tried out new techniques that have improved my work and in general had a great year. To sum up the team at Tregye, they are one big happy family and make you feel a part of it.
I like to thank the team at Tregye for helping me so much and would recommend everyone to take this course even if it is just for the experience!"
